Ave Maria

I'm now a junior in high school, and I'm taking photography!
I'm using my dad's old Canon Eos 620. In the class, we are given a roll of black-and-white film and an assignment. We develop the film in class with an old canister and D-76 developer, then head to the darkroom to make our prints. The whole process is very involved.
This series comes from the 'Line' assignment. I went to a Franciscan Friar's monastery for a change in scenery.

  1. I love the composition here. You chose to frame the flowers and crop the hand... The lines falling off the robe are a good compliment. I'd like to see a bit more contrast. All in tricks of the trade. More darkroom hours will bring big bonuses.

  2. It was a white statue on a rainy day, there wasn't a whole lot of contrast in real life. I tried tweaking it on Picasa, but the highlights came out too bright and the shadows were getting lost, so I just cleaned it up a little. My teacher says that when making prints, you're going for bright whites, detailed darks, and medium greys in between.
